Step1: Get an Xbox (or Xbox360)
Step2: Connect the System to the internet. You can use a wireless adapter, or just use an Xbox360 Ethernet cord to directly connect (not sure if you can use others.) If your using a modem with one plug, you may need to unplug it and replug it in to reset the IP address when ever you swap between the two. The wireless adapter is a bit more expensive so using a ethernet cord is the cheaper alternative.
Step3: Sign in to a profile. At the dashboard (on the old one) there will be an Join XboxLive option. If you have the new dashboard press the guide button and choose join XboxLive.
Step4: Follow the steps it will give you which includes creating a username, password, and entering some other info (email address etc.)
Step5: If this is your first account it should give a month of gold free (lucky you!)
