You must drop the fuel tank. It is easier if it is empty. There is a plastic shroud and 2 straps. You will need a fuel line removal tool (Pliers) or you can try and use other types of pliers but it is difficult. There are 3 lines. Presure, return and vent. You will probably find the lines are corroded and seized and you might end up having to replas the ends.
After the tank has been dropped you will need to remove the Fuel Pump and sender unit by removing a lock collar. There will be corrosion in this area and you will probably want to clean up.
If the tank is in reasonable condition you might want to clean it up and put some undercoating or rust preventative coating?
The unit is expensive so you might try and get one from a wreckers. They often pull the tanks out but you might find a pump assembly from a removed tank not damaged.
To replace the pump and sender unit is not an easy job, but it can be done.
