I cannot see how old this question is. I would go to a Buergerbuero to get a new passport and they can answer the questions about work. The only things you need to get a job is a passport and a flat I would say.

Your question does not make sense. You need to be a US citizen to have an American passport. If you have a green card and an expired Russian passport, contact a Russian embassy in the US and they should be able to issue you a travel letter or stamp your passport so you may travel back to Russia. But returning to the US is another problem.

No. You need a valid passport to cross borders. Especially into a developed nation like France that is going to have the technology to scan your passport and realise that it has expired. An exeption however will occur if you are travelling from a bordering European nation within the Eurozone e.g. Belgium or Italy or Germany. In that case, your passport won't be checked. Though I am unsure as to the legality of doing that (entering on an expired passport) if you're not a European citizen.
