A defective coil can cause an engine to run erratically or not start at all. Coils can weaken, causing insufficient spark. A coil can also breakdown once it heats up then work when it gets cooled down.
Replace it only if it becomes defective.
Spark plug wires porous? Defective distributor cap? Defective ignition coil?
Then there is a no spark condition and engine will not run. If it has more than one coil pack it will miss on the cylinders controlled by the defective coil pack.
Every time it becomes defective.
Lots of noise or the belt jumping off.
Symptoms of a bad coil pack can vary. Most common is a Misfire which will turn on the check engine light. the most common way to test a coil pack is with a volt meter set to OHMS
There are 3 (1 per 2 cylinders)if you have a 3.1 V6. They are under the exhaust manifold closest to the front of the car. Follow your plug wires and you will find them. Chances are that you only have one defective coil so try to narrow it down by pulling plug wires at the coil pack while the engine is idling. The defective coil will have no effect when its' plug wires are pulled.
first i would check your coil, if its good, check your ignition switch.
Defective spark plug or spark plug wire, burnt valve, blown head gasket, defective fuel injector, bad coil if equipped with coil on plug, broken ring on that one cylinder, just to name the most obvious.
It is important to know the symptoms of a bad car part. The symptoms of a coil going bad would be having a trouble starting and running the car, the coil getting hot, and poor fuel economy.
Could be lots of reasons: Bad fuel, water in fuel, clogged fuel filter, defective fuel pump, defective coil pack (weak spark), defective sensor (computer in limp mode), etc.
You will not get fire to the plugs on a 2000 Kia if the ignition coil is defective or it is not receiving power. This can be checked by using a multimeter to verify power levels at the coil.
