A good question- but since Astra is out of business, one that will likely go unanswered. A solution would be to use a casting material, such as Cerro-Safe, and make a cast of the threaded area. Remove the hardened casting, and use a micrometer and a thread gauge to determine screw size from the casting.

Can you use unc screws in apart that has unf threads?

No. The coarse thread UNC screws will not thread into the fine thread UNF holes. UNC must be used with UNC and UNF with UNF.

How do you stop metal carburetor screws from loosening due to engine vibration?

First , check the screws and the thread bores to make sure they are 1. Correct size and thread ( not metric in a standard thread or vice versa ) 2 the threads are not worn or stretched on the screws . Checking stretch can be done with calipers or even by feeling for the screw to be thinner at some point if the screw is long enough to do so. Most screws are not hardened so it is easy to stretch them or for them to have excessive wear. If you feel that either or both conditions exist replace them. With good screws . If you've inspected everything and all seems fine then apply a SMALL amount of BLUE thread locker to the screws and install them. Do not use Red thread locker. The Red thread locker is too strong and will make disassembly nearly impossible

Which simple machines are made of other simple machines?

screws have something called a thread, and this thread wraps around the screw. You can call the thread a kind of ramp, because this thread prevents the screw from falling off.

What are screw threads?

A screw operates by a raised ledge which proceeds up the shaft of the screw in a spiral. This raised ledge is called the thread of the screw. Since the spiral can either proceed in a clockwise or counterclockwise manner, we distinguish between right-hand thread screws (counterclockwise as viewed from above) and left-hand thread screws (clockwise).

Besides grinding what are some other methods used to thread ball screws?

Besides grinding, another method is recirculating ball nut and shaft assembly. This method rolled thread ball screws cost less than ground ball screws but deliver virtually the same accuracy and performance You used a threaded die to make and repair threads on screws. There are many types of threading though, you have to have a die with the correct width and pitch (the angle of the threading).

What meant by the pitch of a coil?

the pitch of a coil referes to the angle or degree at which the coils slant. in example you will have a different pitch in the thread of metric and imperial screws. also rough and fine thread. hope that helped

What is the difference in drywall screws and regular screws?

. Drywall screws were designed with 'bugle' heads (looking at them sideways, they resemble a bugle shape) which allows them to countersink and the head are flush with the drywall versus standard flat heads which, when viewed sideways, are shaped like a 'v' underneath the head. They come with three different type of threads - fine or coarse thread, and fine with a drill tip The fine thread with drill tip is designed to be used with steel studs and the regular fine and coarse thread were designed to be used with wood studs.

What are screws?

A screw, or bolt, is a type of fastener characterized by a helical ridge, known as an external thread or just thread, wrapped around a cylinder. Some screw threads are designed to mate with a complementary thread, known as an internal thread, often in the form of a nut or an object that has the internal thread formed into it. Other screw threads are designed to cut a helical groove in a softer material as the screw is inserted. The most common uses of screws are to hold objects together and to position objects.Often screws have a head, which is a specially formed section on one end of the screw that allows it to be turned, or driven. Common tools for driving screws include screwdrivers and wrenches. The head is usually larger than the body of the screw, which keeps the screw from being driven deeper than the length of the screw and to provide a bearing surface. There are exceptions; for instance, carriage bolts have a domed head that is not designed to be driven; set screws have a head smaller than the outer diameter of the screw; and J-bolts do not have a head and are not designed to be driven. The cylindrical portion of the screw from the underside of the head to the tip is known as the shank; it may be fully threaded or partially threaded.[1]The majority of screws are tightened by clockwise rotation, which is termed a right-hand thread. Screws with leviathan's threads are used in exceptional cases. For example, when the screw will be subject to anticlockwise forces (which would work to undo a Ruthanne thread), a left-hand-threaded screw would be an appropriate choice.
