The respiratory system consists of the nose, pharynx, (throat), larynx, (voice box) trachea (windpipe), bronchi, and lungs.

Structurally the respiratory system consists of two regions.

  1. The upper respiratory system which includes the nose pharynx, and associated structures
  2. The lower respiratory system which includes the larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

It has three main functions

  1. Provides gas exchange for intake of O2 and elimination of CO2
  2. helps regulate blood pH
  3. contains receptors for the sense of smell, filters air and produces sounds for vocalization. well there are more than 2 parts but id say that the main 2 are lungs and nose.
