Some traditions of Hinduism are to not eat meat. Especially cows! Cows are holy and pure to Hindus. They don't eat meat because it is not proper to kill and eat something that God has created.

Therefore, it is a huge subject with 1220 million people spread over an area of 3.3 million square miles, covering a history of more than 5,000 years. The traditions vary greatly. However, combined family, polytheism, arranged marriages, are some of the traditions of hindus.
The do not eat meat or beef in particular because they believe that it is wrong to kill something that has a soul and that every living thing has a soul hence the no eating beef tradition...
