As far as i know there are three river valley civilization which are indus river valley and indus and tigris river valley.
The Mesopotamians in the Fertile Crescent settled along the Tigris/Euphrates Rivers. The Ancient Chinese settled on the Yellow River. The Ancient India people were along the Indus River.
The concept of civilizations settling along rivers is not new to ancient people, nor to more modern peoples such as Native Americans in North & South American continents or colonists entering the New World. Water was essential for life.
