Best Answer

Distillation is used to separate pure water from a thicker liquid substance, such as ink.

It does this by heating the water, which then evaporates and rises, leaving the ink. It then travels down a tube, surrounded by a condenser which changes it from water vapor back to water, and then it falls into a beaker at the other end.

Can liquids with similar boiling points be separated using fractional distillation?

No, due to the fact that fractional distillation uses the difference in boiling points of liquids to seperate them, therefore in order to perform fractional distillation there should be a difference of at least 1degree centigrade

What method uses evaporation to get salt from sea water?

The water part of salt-water will be evaporated in the sun just like normal water. What will remain is the salt.

Could you compare and contrast simple from steam distillation in terms of type of mixtures separated?

Simple and steam distillation are similar in that they use boiling to separate organic components. Simple distillation boils them off at their boiling points, then condenses them. Steam distillation uses water mixed with the compounds to lower their boiling points and avoid decomposing them by heat.

What are some uses of distillation?

Distillation is used to remove a low boiling liquid from a higher boiling liquid or solid. Water can be distilled out of salt water to leave the salts behind. Gasoline is distilled out of crude oil. Seam distillation can also be used, for example to distill clove oil out of cloves.

How is science and technology utilized in desalination?

Desalination is the process of removing salt from sea water in order to make drinking water. The method of doing this typically uses reverse osmosis. Distillation is sometimes employed, usually using vacuum distillation.
