What are the ways of life of people in Israel?

Israelis currently live very similarly to Americans or West Europeans. Most work at businesses, some work in hospitality or the tourism industry, some work in agriculture, and some work in entertainment. They go to malls and beaches when they are off the clock and buy the latest fashions at their leisure.

In its majority, Israeli society is like that of Western Europe, with modern cities, infrastructure, schools, trade, agriculture, etc. However, there are two significant differences. One is that the struggle against the terrorists imposes some restrictions.
The other difference is that there is a large religious demographic, with a couple of million Israelis who live a more or less Torah-oriented life all year round. Some religious observances are kept by secular Israelis as well, such as Yom Kippur.

• When Israel chose a national day of rest for schools and businesses, it chose Saturday (the Jewish Sabbath), not Sunday. Sunday is a full workday in Israel.
  
• Many official functions are catered with kosher food. To purchase pork in Israel, or leavened bread on Passover, a person would have to make a serious search.
  
• Torah-holidays such as Passover and Sukkot are celebrated everywhere, not just in private. Hanukkah-menorahs are often displayed outdoors.
  
• Israeli coins have no human likenesses on them.
  
• The majority of marriages and funerals are at least nominally religious.
  
• Modern Israel uses the Hebrew calendar as well as the Gregorian one.
