Combat Medics work pretty much the same hours as anyone else in their unit. If you are a medic attached to a hospital or a TMC (Troop Medical Clinic) you will most likely work a normal 8-10 hour shift, depending on the shift schedules. If you are attached to a line unit you will work whatever hours they work. I am a in a line unit and i report to work at 0630 in the morning for PT (Physical Training), which goes until about 0730. After that i go home and clean up and report back to work at 0900. i go to lunch from 1130-1300 and usually get done for the day around 1600 or so. When i was deployed i was running missions with my unit any time of the day or night and the missions were anywhere from 4 hours to 20+ hours. The hours you work really just depends on the unit you are in and what kind of things they do. There are no set working ours for a combat medic.

With the reorganisation, new requirements were put in place for Combat Medics, one of which was that a Combat Medic should hold a basic EMT licence (national registry).

What is a combat medics work environment?
Typically, when someone is talking about a combat medic, they are talking about a line medic. A line medic is attached to a unit both in combat and in a garrison environment. A line medic does many of the same things in garrison that he would do during a deployment. This could be running daily sick call or acting as a lifeguard during water PT. When that same unit deploys, the medic would still run sick call, but when the platoon goes out on a mission, the medic goes with them. If the unit is hit while on mission, the medic is in charge of everything from casualty triage (determining the order in which casualties should be treated) to the actual treatment of everything from amputations to breathing problems to bloody noses or twisted ankles. The combat medic is one of the most important people in the unit. It is important that he take his job very seriously so that the men in his unit know they can depend on him.
