Multicellular organisms thus have the competitive advantages of an increase in size without its limitations. They can have longer lifespans as they can continue living when individual cells die. Multicellularity also permits increasing complexity by allowing differentiation of cell types within one organism.
The advantages of being a multicellular are as follows:
1. If the bonds from the eukaryotic cell travel to another cell's part, the multicellular "army" can fight off the bacteria entering, and
2. If the cell membrane breaks the multicellular parts which are not being used will be taken the place of the cell membrane.
There is a division of labor among the cells that allows the organism to become more complex and, perhaps, better at surviving and reproducing.
Having many cells insures the organism against environmental insult that could destroy a unicellular organism with ease.
