Multicellular organisms thus have the competitive advantages of an increase in size without its limitations. They can have longer lifespans as they can continue living when individual cells die. Multicellularity also permits increasing complexity by allowing differentiation of cell types within one organism.

The advantages of being a multicellular are as follows:

1. If the bonds from the eukaryotic cell travel to another cell's part, the multicellular "army" can fight off the bacteria entering, and

2. If the cell membrane breaks the multicellular parts which are not being used will be taken the place of the cell membrane.

There is a division of labor among the cells that allows the organism to become more complex and, perhaps, better at surviving and reproducing.

Having many cells insures the organism against environmental insult that could destroy a unicellular organism with ease.

Why are cells necessary?

To improve our metabolism. If we were just one big bubble, we would never have enough place on our surface to exchange enough O2, CO2, and the like to be able to live. But if you calculate the surface of the millions of small cells, you'll get a multiple of the surface than that of the big bubble.if we didnt have cells we wouldnt be alive. cells are a big part in out lives : )

What is the significance of mitosis vegetatively?

The formation of new cells is necessary for the following reasons: * multicellular plants and animals start life as single cells, the zygotes or fertilized egg cells; the process of Mitosis gives rise to many cells which differentiate to form tissues, organs and organ-systems of the organism. * mitosis results in an increase in size and growth of an organism, * cell reproduction is used to form new cells to renew certain tissues and to replace worn out cells * mitosis is also used as a form of asexual reproduction in some organisms like in unicellular Amoeba and multicellular Hydra as well as vegetative reproduction in plants.
