The two annual feasts are:

  • The feast of breaking fasting, called in Arabic 'Eid Alfitr'. This feast comes on the first day after end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the 9th month in the Islamic lunar Calendar that is called Hijra Calendar. Muslims celebrate this day on the occasion of completing the fasting of the month of Ramadan.
  • The feast of Sacrifice, called in Arabic 'Eid Aladha'. This feast comes on the 10th of Zulhijja (the 12th month in the Islamic lunar Calendar that is called Hijra Calendar). This day is one of the Hajj (pilgrimage) days. On this day, Muslims (on hajj or not) sacrifice specific animals such as Sheep, Lamb, Goat, Cow and so on to commemorate the willingness and readiness of prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Ismael) as an act of obedience to God, but instead was granted by God (Allah in Arabic) to sacrifice a ram (by God's command). It is an important feast for Muslims because Muslims believe in Ibrahim (Abraham) as one of the greatest prophets in Islam. There is a chapter in Quran titled by Ibrahim. Prophet Ibrahim is highly respected in Quran. He is mentioned in Quran in many chapters.
