Himalaya blocks northernly winds from crossing over to Indian sub-continent, this means most of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh stays warm all year round, sometimes too warm.
During winter these winds block cold dry area, if you notice most of the region of china on same latitude and altitude get really cold during winter, Shanghai is on similar latitude as New Delhi and is actually lower in altitude, still its 4-5C cooler than Delhi.
While during winter same cold air is blocked but this helps monsoon, as winds move from south (Indian ocean) carrying moist air over the land and it has to be dumbed somewhere. If there were no Himalayas, in Winter India wouldn't receive monsoon as the wind would blow from north to south as south of the country would get hotter and winds always move from cooler region to warmer region as hot air rises up making pressure low and cooler air fills the space.
This would still bring rain to lower part of the country but most of the north would be desert.
