Louisiana is the state most affected by the oil spill of April 20, 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. The area in which the initial, explosive event took place is 41 miles [66 kilometers] off the Gulf coast of Louisiana. But the entire Gulf coast of the United States of America may be impacted in terms of the environmental devastation and the disruption to transportation, trade, tourism and other sea and seaside activities.
