Islam initially spread to the Arabian Peninsula, then expanded to the Middle East, North Africa, parts of Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and eventually to other parts of the world through trade, conquest, and cultural diffusion.

There are a few major areas Islam expanded too. Islam expands from South to East Asia.

The empire adopted Islamic laws and practices, which helped unify the diverse population under a common religious framework. Spain (in addition to Portugal) and Sicily were not able to fight off Islamic influence as much as other areas. Arabs were able to conquer and immigrate easier to these areas than other parts of Europe. They are also fairly close to Northern Africa/the Middle East, which is where Islam originates and thrives.
