They used standard issue U.S. Army muskets or rifles of the time which were flintlock. There is an old gun-magazine legend they had a gift of a German-made experimental pneumatic rifle that was a forerunner of a modern automatic arm! Overkill in the Wilderness! I cannot confirm this. If any of these weapons survive, they are priceless Museum artifacts well over 200.
