Stephan Fuller Austin (S.F.A) did not actually come to Texas for himself.
He came for his father Moses Austin who had made an agreement with New Spain to bring new Spanish citizens over to Texas. But in 1821 Mexico got it's independence for New Spain. ( sorry off topic ) Anyways Stephan's Father Moses died and right before he died he asked Stephan to establish his colony. Stephan agreed leaveing everything he had gone to school to be when he got older (Lawyer) to keep the promise he made to his father. When he went to texas everything was confusing, at first the new goverment of Mexico wasn't going to let them come in because the agreement had been with spain but he won them over and was allowed to come in a settle down the land witch was 100,000 ACRES OF LAND as promised but only if he could get 300 Hundred familes to agree to come with him in 6 years. I know a little more info then you asked for but still. ( 7th grader anonymus )
