The People's Republic of China has not designated an official avian symbol (or national bird). The red-crowned crane (grus japonensis) was identified as meeting all selection criteria by officials seeking to select a bird, but has not been officially designated, in part because its scientific name translates as "Japanese Crane."
In the meantime, within China on the internet, the common sparrow has receive much support for designation as the national bird.
