Additional Answer:

The Book of Judges which follows the Book of Joshua. In Judges 2:18-19 it says, "And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; For the Lord was moved with pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them. And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other gods, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way."

How many people did Moses lead into the promised land?

The mature men were about 600,000 (Exodus 12:37), plus the 23,000 Levites (Numbers 3:39). To this must be added the converts (Exodus 12:38), and the women and children. Based on the ratio of firstborn to younger children (Numbers ch.3), it can be seen that the children were numerous. Estimates for the total number are usually given at two million or more. However, it was Joshua who actually entered the promised land, not Moses (Deuteronomy ch.34- Joshua ch.1).

What were the roles of the judges in the Promised land?

They were judging as the their title says! Judges were before the kings of Israel. These were the people God chose at a given time to lead the nation of Israel since there were no human kings at the time leading the nation of Israel. They didn't necessarily have to be prophets but rather chosen by God to fight (sometimes) or lead the Israelites into battle or even quarrels among themselves. They were not revered like kings such as Saul, David or Solomon.Samson and Gideon were also judges. Famous judges include Samuel and Eli. As a matter of fact, 12 people are identified as judges by the Book of Judges. Please read this book for more details.Wikipedia gives a clear explanation too: http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_judgesBut I recommend you read the Bible (the book of Judges) for this kind of information.
