Answer:
The prophetic "symbol" in The Bible for angels is the "star."
"...The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches..." (Rev.1:20)
When God queried Job, regarding his knowledge of God and His creation... God made reference to the angels, using this symbol:
"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding... who laid the cornerstone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job 38:4-7)
The evidence is that God made as many angels as there are stars in the universe. In other words -- too many to count.
God's Word tells us that angels are "...ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation..." (Heb.1:14).
And if the number of angels is too many to count... so shall be the number of "saved" whom God has in mind, who shall eventually populate His Kingdom... and become the Immortal members of His Family.
Which is exactly what God promised Abraham:
"...I WILL MAKE THY SEED AS THE DUST OF THE EARTH: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered." (Gen.13:16)
"...Look now toward heaven, and tell [number; count] the stars, if thou be able to number them: and He said unto him, So shall thy seed be." (Gen.15:5)
(same verse NIV): "...Look up at the heavens and count the stars -- if indeed you can count them. Then He said to him, So shall your offspring be."
That's how many Children God is making [procreating Himself] to be born into His future Family.
And according to His Word -- He made an angel [ministering spirit] for every one of them!!!
So, the best number that can be found for angels [as well as God's future "faithful Children"] in the Bible is found in the book of Hebrews:
"By faith Abraham, even though he was past age... was enabled to become a father... and so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the skyand as countless as the sand on the seashore." (Heb.11:11-12 NIV)
"But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the Living God. You have come to THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF ANGELS in joyful assembly, to the church of the Firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all men, to the spirits of Righteous men made Perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better Word than the blood of Abel." (Heb.12:22-24 NIV)
The evidence regarding the number of God's angels is scattered throughout God's Word ["...here a little, and there a little..." - Isa.28:10]... as stated above. But these two passages in Hebrews pretty much rounds it out... and boggles the mind.
