Why won't they let you read it? Stuff them, I say. They should be encouraging you to tea not telling you that you can't. Just buy the books yourself or read them at a library, school library, public library etc.

to start with little books help them read those then on chapter books help them on those a little while and then let them do it themselfs and see how they do.
