In order for the Legislative Branch to pass a bill into law, the President (Executive Branch) must sign it. The President can check the Legislative Branch by vetoing it: not signing a bill into law. The legislative branch's power is being checked when the executive vetoes bills. The veto can be overridden by a two-thirds vote in both houses.
Laws that are passed in the Senate and House have to go to the President to be signed into law. So, the President can veto a law. However, if the President vetoes a law, it goes back to Congress and will still become a law if 2/3 of Congress votes for it.
