The Judiciary of the federal government is not elected. Judges in state courts may be elected or may be appointed, depending on the state.

In the Federal Government, the only members of the Executive Branch which are elected are the President and Vice President. All others are appointed. In state governments, most states elect both the Governor and Vice- (or Deputy-) Governor, plus possibly several major Executive offices. For example, California elects the Secretary of State, Insurance Commissioner, Attorney General, Controller, Treasurer, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the several members of the Board of Equalization (the tax board).

The Judicial branch of government on the Federal level is not subject to reelection. In fact, the Federal judges are not elected at all, they are appointed. They can be hired or fired according to the determination of the White House. The only judges on the Federal level that have permanent jobs are those of the Supreme Court. They are appointed by the president, confirmed by congress, and then sit on the Supreme Court for as long as they want.
