The Judicial branch settles court cases (disputes between individuals). That is not their only job though. They also interpret how the law is to be upheld and carried out.
Legislative Branch makes the laws, the Executive enforces the laws and the Judiciary settles disputes.
Military lawsuits are usually held in federal court. Some cases are allowed to be filed in state court under clauses different to each branch and state.
