The first singular person known to own an Arabian horse has been lost in the many years since the breed developed. However the Prophet Mohammed was the breeds largest supporter in ancient times and most Arabian horses were owned, breed, and cared for by the Bedouin tribes of the middle east.

That really depends on where you're from and where you live. In North America, likely the most famous breed of horse would be the American Mustang, followed by the American Quarter Horse. In the Middle East, the most famous breed would be the Arabian horse.

The Arabian was developed in the middle east, so mainly it was sandy deserts which were very hot and dry, and some mountainous areas, which would vary between hot and cold very quickly.

As an English officer he would almost certainly have ridden a Hanoverian horse, the preferred breed in the British army at the time. During his stays in the Middle East the most common breed there was Arabian and he is almost certain to have ridden that horse. Normally however he would ride a camel when covering somewhat larger distances in Arabia. His favorite form of transport by the way was the motorcycle. A motorcycle accident also was the cause of his death.
Trakehner is a breed developed in East Prussia in the early 1700's. Considered a lightweight warmblood, the breed was influenced by the Arabian and Thouroghbred. More refined than many of the Warmblood breeds, it tends to be a breed with a little 'fire', and excells at many different sports, such as three day eventing, and hunters/jumpers.
