Historically party colours have varied by region. Purple was never the main colour of a national party, but in different times and places it's represented everything from the Liberals to the Conservatives. I can't give you a list for the last two centuries throughout the whole country, but if you have people wandering around Victorian London in purple rosettes, they're probably Tories.
Colours are not political, nor do they "belong" to any one place or group of people. Purple is a colour, a wavelength of light, a part of nature.
