When it comes to burning calories, your heart rate is much more important than what it is that you are doing. If you can reach and sustain the same heart rate for the same amount of time you will burn pretty much the same amount of calories regardless of activity.

For the same length of time, riding flat out will burn more calories than a casual walk, while walking briskly can burn more than a casual ride.

When you have a set distance, cycling will burn less calories than walking at the same level of effort, as the higher speed of the bike means you'll finish the distance faster.

It takes three things to figure out how many calories you burn per mile biking. one is your weight. Then you have your speed and the duration. 150 pound person cycling at a pace of 14 miles will burn 48 calories. The same person traveling at 20 miles will burn 56 calories per mile.

Depends on a lot of things, your age, your gender, your fitness level, how hard you ride to start with.

I get about 60 cals/mile, but I'm an experienced rider and I ride fairly hard. 40 cals/mile or even less is probably more normal.

Sadly only 45 calouries

31 is a good average for 1 mile biked
Depends on several features, like your gender, age, fitness level and how hard you go at it - but for a mile, not many. At a comfortable pace, probably around 30-40.

If you really want to find out there are bike computers that together with heart rate monitors will give a good estimate.
It all depends on the conditions, if you are using a machine then I can't help you. If you are outside in average climate and terrain l, anywhere from 100-150. A mile on a bike is not that much though in the way of exercise

Although the numbers of calories you can burn doing either activity will depend of your own physical characteristics, in general biking burns more calories than walking, even if it's an energetic walk.

It's not really about what you do, but rather about how hard, and how long you go at it.

Basically everything that gets you equally sweaty and winded for the same amount of time will use up the same amount of calories.

There are too many variables to give you a simple answer. It depends upon your age, your weight, your degree of cardiovascular fitness, your body composition, and where you are walking as well as on how far you are walking and how fast you are walking. Instead of measuring calories, why not measure your results? Obviously, brisk walking burns more calories than walking slowly. "Brisk" walking is walking at a 4 mph pace. If you only want to maintain your present percentage of body fat, you may be able to do that by walking, on average, two miles daily. The best time to spend that half hour walking those two miles is right before your first meal of the day. If you want to lose body fat, walk 3, 4, 5, or 6 miles daily at that pace (depending upon how fast you want to lose). You don't have to do all your walks at once; you may break them up. If you haven't been walking, it's very important to start slowly and gradually work up to that pace at whatever distance you select.

running

A 150lb. person will burn roughly 110 calories per mile running; riding a bike at 10 mph. will burn 26 calories per mile. However, ride a bike at 15 mph and the calorie burn goes up to 31 calories per mile, because of the increased wind resistance, which is not a factor when running until you get in to the higher speeds of top competitive runners. 20 mph on a bike burns 38 calories per mile.

Run six miles in one hour and you will burn 660 calories. Ride a bicycle 15 miles in one hour and you will burn 31 x 15 = 465 calories. Running six miles is not easy, whereas most would find riding a bicycle easier and could probably ride much longer than one hour.

HOW MANY CALORIES BURNED WALKING PER MILE

So, how many calories burned walking per mile? Well, ii depends on your age, your weight, your degree of cardiovascular fitness, your body composition, and where you are walking -- soft ground, hard ground, flat ground, on an incline, or hill ground (flat ground or incline) as well as how far you are walking and how fast you are walking.

Any activity that increases your heart and respiration rates is cardio exercise. However, there are different degrees of cardio ranging from very mild to very intense. It is helpful to divide them into mild and intense. There is also an inverse proportion between intensity and duration.

Intense exercise must be brief! For example, you can sprint 100 meters, but you cannot sprint 5000 meters.

Brisk walking is an example of mild cardio exercise. Intense Cardio Exercises include running, interval training, and graded exercise protocol. (So, what you choose will also determine the amount of calories burned when engaging in cardio exercise.)

Therefore, instead of trying to measure calories, measure the fat burning results. Hence, if you choose mild cardio to begin with (you could always try Intense cardio later) here are some initial guidelines for brisk walking outdoors or on a treadmill.

Brisk walking burns more calories than walking slowly. "Brisk" walking is walking at a 4 mph pace. If you only want to maintain your present percentage of body fat, you can do that by walking, on average, two miles daily. If you want to lose body fat then walk three, four, five, or six miles daily (depending upon how fast you want to lose weight) at a 4 mph pace. You do not have to do your entire daily walking at once; you may break it up into several shorter walks.

If you have not been engaging in regular walking exercise, it is important to start slowly and comfortably. You can gradually build up your pace and distance.

It is important to do cardio exercise at the right intensity. This should be not too low and not too high.

So, for the free cardio exercise plans to show you how to do it use the page links listed below. In addition, there is also a free third plan from Intense Cardio, which you may want to move on to after becoming accustomed to mild Cardio.

In addition, because Intense Cardio must be very brief in relation to mild cardio it may prove more suitable for those who do not like exercise, or do not have time for long periods of exercise.

(If you are unaccustomed to exercise it is wise to first consult with you own physician before changing you exercise habits, especially if you already any known condition or disease.)

  1. MILD CARDIO WALKING TO BURN CALORIES PER MILE, Plan 1 (the easier plan)
  2. MILD CARDIO WALKING TO BURN CALORIES, Plan 2 (the slightly harder plan)
  3. INTENSE CARDIO EXERCISE, Plan 3
