REALLY need to know a lot more about the bus(es) you're looking to buy. Huge difference between a school bus and a charter bus, after all, and substantial differences between engine models and model years - especially in regards to diesel emissions regulations for the years they were manufactured. A good rule of thumb is to avoid Cat engines from 2005 - 2009; the 2008 and 2009 model years, especially - those were disasters which ultimately led to Cat making an exit from the highway diesel market. 2003 was a year of growing pains for Cummins. If you're looking at something with a 5.9 Cummins, they were problematic for losing their lift pumps in the years prior to them going to common rail, and, if the problem wasn't caught, could lead to the fuel pump going out, and being a much more costly repair.

Perhaps you should email me with more details of these buses you're looking at, and a more specific answer to your question can be given. Anyone who artbitraily tells you "Cat" or "Cummins" without knowing any of the details I spoke of should not be trusted.

What is a cat bus?

A Cat Bus is an extinct animal from the movie 'my neighbour totoro'. It is a giant cat that lets people ride in it therefore it is a cat bus. It looks like a bus but also a cat. The only word it has ever said is 'Mei!!'. It is ginger. Its best friend is Totoro.

How do you remove a governor from school bus?

The governor is simply line of code programmed into the engine ECM. A truck shop with the appropriate software for the engine (e.g., Insite for Cummins, DT for Caterpillar, etc.) can hook up to it and remove that parameter, provided they have the ECM password.

What engine does a school bus have?

Really depends on the type. A Type A school bus might have a gas, diesel, or CNG engine.. those will use whatever is standard for the chassis manufacturer (e.g., Triton gas or Powerstroke diesel for Ford chassis, Vortec gas or Duramax diesel for General Motors chassis, Hemi gas or Cummins diesel for Dodge chassis). For Type B, C, and D buses, Thomas Built buses is owned by Daimler A.G. - the parent company of Freightliner, Western Star, and Mercedes Benz, and have been available with Cummins, Mercedes-Benz, or Caterpillar (until 2009) diesel engines or Cummins CNG engines. IC Bus is a subsidiary of Navistar International, and can have Navistar MaxxForce or Cummins diesel engines, or Cummins CNG engines. Blue Bird does not make their own engines, so they will use Cummins diesel or CNG engines. In the case of diesels, 6 - 7 liters is most likely what you'll find, though I have, in the past, seen school buses with 7.3 liter 3126 and C7 Caterpillars.

How many mpg does a Greyhound bus get?

You would have to know the size and type of engine, the age of the engine, the age of the bus and weight of the bus. As a general rule, a diesel engine on a bus would get around 6-15 miles per gallon.
