Warm moist heat works best for me. Try a hot soak or a warm wrap and some gentle flexing or massage to get the knee juices moving around. When you cannot soak it (at work for example), try wrapping it gently with an ace bandage to keep the joint warm.

The holistic approach to arthritisinvolves a change in diet, including many complex carbohydrates which are those that are found in fruits and vegetables. Lowering the fat in your diet is also helpful for those who do eat lots of fatty foods. This reduces the fat in the small arteries, allowing oxygen and nutrients to get through. A food-based multivitamin is essential for those who have Arthritis. Vitamin A destroys free radicals, while Vitamins C, B6, E, and zinc enhance collagen production and aid in the repair of connective tissue.

Many people who suffer with arthritis are deficient in Manganese, which can be found naturally in raw nuts and whole grains. MSM, which can be found in health food stores help to relieve pain and aid in joint repair. Selenium will also help in free radical damage, and can be found in both almonds, Oranges and fish.

You should also eat some cherries in order to help relieve pain. There is a long story about a battle with the FDA over cherries, which you can find in the related links if you are interested.

With your doctors permission; water aerobics.

An interesting note: If you are on Medicare, there is a chance that your Medicare Supplemental Insurance Company will pay for a health club membership under the "Silver Sneakers" program, which includes ALL of the health club's services, including water aerobics if they offer it. They figure it's less expensive to keep you in good shape than to repair you from not being in good shape. Makes $en$e I suppose.

Keep Them Healthy!!

There is a common saying, β€œYou’re as old as your knees.” Needless to say, knees are one of the most important structures in the entire human body. In the absence of proper care, knee ailments can end up becoming an inevitable problem of your life. Knee pain should always be checked with a doctor to rule out injury, signs of early arthritis or any other serious condition. The good news is that like every other aspect, knees, if looked upon, can remain fit and healthy.

What could you do?

Basic Cardio exercises, like walking, swimming and stretching strengthen the muscles that support your knee and hence increase flexibility.

Maintain a healthy weight. Your body constitution has a direct effect on your hips, knees and back.

Wear appropriate shoes for the activity. Seek proper arch support if your feet roll in.

Your Diet. Fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, dairy products, and green leafy vegetables help you in combating joint pain. Calcium and vitamin D strengthen your bones as well.

Alternatively, if you want your knees to progress without spending your time going to the doctor, you could check this page.

Will massage help with osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis indicates damage to the cartilage in that knee. while message may feel good and give some relief it will not do anything to repair the cartilage that is at the root of the problem. Answer 2: Unfortunately osteoarthritis has to do with the knee, bone and cartilage loss. Massage can only affect the muscles and surrounding tissue. It may help to massage this area if there is swelling and inflammation but that will not change the loss of cartilage in the knee. Severe osteoarthritis and loss of cartilage, bone on bone, is where doctors usually consider knee replacement surgery.
