My daughter never seemed to empty her bladder totally. Please ask your doctor to set up an appointment with a urologist, you may just find that you are getting a backwash into your kidneys. If you are young enough as she was the doctor said growth spurts might stretch the ureters/bladder/kidney into the right position or later in life it may have to be corrected by surgery. Please do not fool around with this see someone soon!

What is advantage of having a bladder for temporary storage of urine?

The advantages of having a bladder, well the kidneys do not retain such fluids and merely act as a filtering system, so if no bladder is present and even in the cases of shrunken bladders urine leaves the body freely.... very embarrassing! Another advantage would be that we do not have to carry around some sort of external urine container maybe similar to that of the catheter and bag...

What is urinary stasis?

You have the sense to urinate when the nerves on the bladder wall feel pressure. When an animal has a blockage and the bladder becomes full and distended the bladder then stretches. When the blockage is removed the bladder has now lost some of it's ability o contract to normal size thus taking away some of the sensation of the need to urinate. This causes the bladder to only partially express during urination leaving urine in the bladder. This could lead to bacterial infections due to standing urine in the bladder.

Urine cannot leave the bladder?

When urine can't leave the bladder it's called urine retention. This can be caused by some medications, but it can also be from something serious. It can also result in reflux, meaning the urine backs up into the kidneys. When urine retention does happen, you need to see your doctor for a diagnosis and treatment.

Can you control your bladder with catheter in?

As the catheters drains the urine continously to the collection bag the bladder will not be expanded by filling-up with urine. The patient will not feel any urge to empty the bladder as long as the catheter is inside. Some patients feel at the beginning a "something is inside".

Can holding in your urine cause an bladder infection?

Yes-- The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when the urine is released. Waiting long causes the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity which over a period of time can weaken the bladder muscle. When the bladder is weakened it may not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder which may increase the risk of urinary tract infection or bladder infection.

Is the inability to contain urine in the urinary bladder?

no once you are ready to let it go your bladder opens up and lets some of it out without letting the body fully releasing it
