What can catholics do to help global warming?

The earth is not our true home, according to catholic beliefs. Our days under the sun will pass, and while we should respect this earth God has given us, Ecclesiastes 6:12 reads--

"For who knows what is good for a man in life, during the few and meaningless days he passes through like a shadow? Who can tell him what will happen under the sun after he is gone?"

2 Peter 3:13 also says--

"But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness."

It does not matter if the earth will burn up many, many years in the future because of global warming, if that is what God has intended. Life is not about using energy efficient light bulbs or that we carpool or recycle. What does matter is that honor God and love our neighbor as ourselves.

Catholics can turn off their lights when they leave the room. Turn off every appliance at the wall rather than leaving them on stand by. By doing this they are saving electricity and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide put into our atmosphere.

Catholics can walk to Mass instead of driving their cars. Or they can go on public transport, or bike, or carpool. This saves burning fossil fuel in their transport, thus reducing carbon dioxide.

Catholics can take short showers and save water. They can recycle everything and compost their food scraps. They can walk their kids to school instead of driving them. This is healthier for kids and parents.
