Any number of things can cause Fibromyalgia pain to worsen, including diet, exercise (too much or too little), stress and weather. Every patient is different and needs to take time to learn their own limits and discover what activities or choices impact their symptoms.

When it comes to exercise there is a very delicate balance required. If you don't stretch regularly and try to do light exercise your symptoms can worsen as your muscles and fibers tighten due to too little use. However, too much exercise can cause stress on your body sending you into a "flare".

Weather seems to impact most Fibromyalgia patients. Many report that barometric changes create the largest impact. Many find that their symptoms increase as weather fronts move into or out of their area. This is especially so when dealing with storm fronts.

Any sort of stress can also impact Fibromyalgia pain and symptoms. This includes emotional and mental stress, as well as physical stress. This is one reason why many find it hard to continue to work. In addition to the fatigue that they face with Fibromyalgia, a stressful work or home life can severely increase Fibromyalgia pain and symptoms.

Fibromyalgia can cause pain and tire someone out mentally. Arthritis only causes pain due to inflammation. The problem is physicians don't really know what causes fibromyalgia, unlike arthiritis which is famously known. Fibromyalagia is harder to bear, so I think fibromyalgia is worse than arthiritis.

Can you have fibromyalgia in only one area of the body?

By definition Fibromyalgia is wide-spread pain throughout at least 11 of 18 "tender points" on the body, often in addition to fatigue. It would be very unlikely that someone with Fibromyalgia ONLY has pain in one area of the body. However, it is not uncommon that the pain is worse in one area than it is in others. Often, Fibromyalgia patients may not realize they have pain throughout the body until the various tender points are touched. Determining pain in those tender points only requires the application of mild pressure to each point.
