Nothing from a human's medicine cabinet - human anti-inflammatory drugs like Tylenol, Aleve, aspirin, Advil and other related drugs are fairly toxic to dogs and can cause fatal stomach ulcers.

If your dog is suffering from a severe inflammation, your veterinarian can prescribe either a dog-safe NSAID like Rimadyl (carprofen) or a steroid like prednisone depending upon the location, severity and underlying cause of the inflammation. However, the inflammation itself is typically just a symptom caused by the immune system trying to handle a problem; this underlying problem needs to be identified and addressed to truly resolve the inflammation.

For pain relief it all depends on the type of pain the dog is experiencing.... as a licensed vet tech i will tell you dont give your dog any over the counter meds..as some can be toxic .. the best bet is to take your dog to the vet and they will tailor the medication to his needs

There are several anti-inflammatory drugs that your veterinarian can prescribe for your dog, depending on what is causing the inflammation and where it is. You should NEVER give your dog ANY medication that is sold for use in humans, because dogs are very sensitive to the side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Tylenol, Advil, aspirin, etc.). Even one of these pills can be enough to cause a fatal stomach ulcer.

There are many dog-specific medications which can be obtained through your veterinarian. Do NOT use aspirin/acetaminophen/naproxen sodium/tylenol in dogs; they can cause anything from stomach ulcers to death.
