What do you do with the engagement ring after marriage?
The answer to this question probably relies mostly on cost and personal preference. Most women wear the engagement ring above the wedding band on the left hand. Some couples use the engagement ring as the wedding band due to the cost associated with the engagement ring. Still others may make it a right hand ring, though this is rather uncommon. Some women continue to wear the ring everyday just as they did when they were engaged, but now they wear it with their wedding band. Some women only wear their wedding bands on a daily basis and wear the engagement ring and band together on special occasions only. You can also put the engagement ring away and decide to use it as a family heirloom and when you have a son; he can give it to his fiance and this tradition can continue.
Do you get to keep your engagement ring?
== Answer == see onceuponatragedy.com she is taking peoples engagement rings for an art installation in NYC in December http://www.jewelocean.com - Some people put it away after they are married, some decide to use it again for a wedding ring, some take it to a jeweler to have it altered into a wedding ring (another gem, an inscription...) and some, like myself, just have the engagement ring on one hand and the wedding ring on the other! I enjoy them both and although the wedding ring is the symbol of the legal bond between us, the engagement ring is still a symbol of the love between us.
Do you have to get an engagement ring to propose and then a marriage ring at the wedding?
It's a personal choice. Some people give engraved (or not) watches as engagement presents but it is convention for the girl to get a ring as her engagement promise. She is bound by law in most Western countries to return the ring if the engagement is broken as it forms part of the contractual agreement to marry. The wedding ring is customary, certainly for the woman. In many countries both partners receive a ring. Additional Notes: Sometimes people just use the engagement ring as the wedding ring as well. Some engagement rings come with a matching wedding band. This is called a bridal or wedding set. Please see the Resources/links to see what a wedding set might look like. This ring can be worn with or without the matching wedding band. The wedding "ring" you are referring to is the wedding band that both men and women wear daily after they are married to symbolize comittment and to display that they are married and unavailable.

Can your engagement ring be your wedding ring?
Is it ok to have just ONE RING as your Wedding & Engagement ring?! So at your wedding, instead of receiving another ring/band you just use your Engagement Ring to be put on your finger at the ceremony? The reason why I ask this is because I have NEVER been a fan of jewelry to begin with and NEVER wore rings until I got engaged. Even after being engaged it has been hard to wear my ring (I just don't like things on my hand) and I only wear it when I leave the house on special occasions or anytime I'm with my fiance. It may sound funny but I actually have a bit of Jewelry/metal phobia. So since there is no way I'll be comfortable wearing two rings, can I just make my engagement ring my wedding ring? The answer is yes: wear what makes you comfortable.

Why does the engagement ring look more extravagant and cost more than the wedding ring isn't the wedding ring more significant in meaning?
* * It's a matter of individual taste. Some women don't mind a small diamond ring, while other women prefer a good sized engagement ring and it use to mean years ago the bigger the diamond the more prosperous the future husband was. Today some women don't want an engagement ring and a simple gold band with an inscription on it will suffice. Women should be more aware of what their future husband's financial affairs are and if they can afford such a lavish ring and not put themselves into debt. * Mainly because men think when they show that engagement ring, and its beautiful, they will say yes and they wont say they dont wanna get married once they see the marriage ring! * Because a wedding ring is supposed to be worn at all times, and an engagement ring is both impractical as well as potentionally dangerous in some situations (risk of injury or robbery).
What is the best choice for a wedding ring?
use your best judgement, but if you ask me the wedding ring should be in the same style as the engagement ring. If the engagement ring has a plain band with a stone on it of even just an inscription on it then the wedding band should follow suit. if it has a band with little crystals, diamond of CZ then get a wedding band with the same thing. or better yet ask your future wife what she would prefer.
Is there a difference between an engagement ring and an anniversary ring?
You can use any ring for either one. Usually an engagement ring has a main diamond and maybe small ones around it or just one stone. I had a carved jade ring for mine. An anniversary ring is often a bigger stone you can afford now that you're settled down with a job and a house to rededicate yourself as a couple. It can be any style you want. There is no custom that people in general follow for this type of thing.

Maryland law in reference to returning engagement ring?
Answer It does not matter what State you live in; once given an engagement ring it is yours to keep and that also includes any gifts given by your fiance. Some young women prefer to give their engagement ring back; while others choose to keep it. Unless it is a family heirloom then keep the ring. Answer That is incorrect. The laws to vary from state to state. The majority of courts also consider an engagement ring to be a conditional gift. That means that, until some future event occurs, the gift isn't final; if that event does not occur, then the donor has the right to get the gift back. In real life, many parents use this concept by, for example, giving a teenage daughter the keys to the family car, on the condition that she maintain a certain grade point average for a specified period of time. If she doesn't make the grade, the keys must be returned. Women who want to keep their engagement rings often argue that the condition needed to make the engagement ring a final gift is simply the acceptance of the proposal of marriage, not the completion of the marriage ceremony. That way, if the engagement is broken, the ring remains her property. However, this argument often loses. The majority of courts find that the gift of an engagement ring contains an implied condition of marriage; acceptance of the proposal is not the underlying "deal." Absent some other understanding -- say, that the ring is merely a memento of a great trip to Hawaii -- most courts look at engagement rings as conditional gifts given in contemplation of marriage. The Supreme Court of Montana has come down on the opposite side of this fence, rejecting the conditional gift theory and declaring that an engagement ring is an unconditional, completed gift. Ex-fiances in that western state are unlikely to get help from the courts if they want to get an engagement ring back. Albinger v. Harris, 2002 WL 1226858 (Mont. 2002). Maryland Law According to Maryland divorce attorney Stuart H. Grozbean, an engagement ring is considered a conditional gift unless it's given on a special occasion (such as your birthday) or holiday, in which case the courts could look upon it as an unconditional gift. After the marriage takes place, the ring becomes the property of the recipient.
