Any answer you would receive would be contingent on what brand and model of car you are asking about, and the type of motor (for example, carburated or fuel injected). In the general sense, though, there could be a problem with the electrical connections to the pump, or the sensor that tells the pump when to turn on and when to stop. If you are experiencing problems with fuel pressure, there are other explanations than the fuel pump not working. A clogged fuel strainer attached to the pump, or a clogged fuel filter, for instance. In any case, remember to thoroughly syphon the fuel out of the tank before you work on it, for safety.
Just make sure the engine is not running and pour in the fuel. If the engine is hot let it cool before refueling.
a humming noise is usually related to the fuel pump about to go. or u just have a really loud fuel pump and everything is fine.
Hard to start, stops running for no apparent reason, and a noisy fuel pump. Make sure you replace the fuel filter before proceeding. That may be your problem.
Check if you're getting fire, next make sure you're getting fuel, and check your timing belt.
Yes. Depending on the year of the vehicle and maintanence. Running out of fuel will make the fuel sending unit pull dirty debris from the bottom of the tank where it all settles. This entitles many things such as rust and gunk. Also running a car out of fuel is very harmful for the fuel pump, as the fuel cools the pump, and no fuel means no cool. Running it out of fuel once may not be to serious, but i would refrain from doing it repeatedly.
If it is loud (louder than other GM cars of the same era with fuel injection) I'd suggest you get it replace BEFORE you are stranded. Running out of fuel damages the fuel pump. They all do make some noise, but the noise is not "loud" Sometimes the baffels in the tank break and pieces of the baffels lodge in the fuel pump.
Check fuel compression, I have changed the pump 5 times in my 97,if it comes to this make sure to change the fuel module in the power distribution box also.
Since you said that you had to bang on the gas tank, it might be the fuel pump is sticking, and going bad.
yes
Between 2 and 4 gallons of gas are left when the low fuel light comes on in a Ford vehicle. This gives the driver time to make it to the next gas station before running out.
running out... :( use hemp oil.. legalize it
If the fuel pump is bad it will just quit pumping gas, the electric fuel pump always makes a little noise when running.
