Eat and shop. Those are the two main activities for tourists. Some of the best authentic Chinese restaurants are in Chinatown. As for the shopping, there are so many interesting things to buy and look at, and all of them cost a dollar.
Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Not everything in Chinatown costs a dollar. But in general, stuff isn't too expensive. Every time I have jury duty, I go shopping in Chinatown afterwards (since Chinatown is the neighborhood directly north of the courthouses). Last time I was there, I bought this wooden Chinese jewelry box for $10. It's so beautiful. I also got an ornate wooden incense burner for $5, and six boxes of incense for a dollar each. And two fat little Chinese piggy banks for fifty cents each.
They also have lots of designer knock-offs. Fake Gucci handbags and Juicy Couture clothes, and other stuff like that. I don't know too much about that, though, since I just don't really care about designer label stuff.
Basically you just walk up and down the streets, go into all the different shops, and browse. You'll come home with two large shopping bags full of trinkets and knick-knacks, and you'll have spent $20.

Chinese street gang originating out of New York's Chinatown.
New York City's Chinatown began in the mid-19th century. Chinese sailors who landed in New York City were denied the right to live amongst white people, and so they formed their own neighborhood. See the Related Links below for more information.
