First and foremost, the person who reported the item stolen while knowing what actually happened to said item may find themselves in serious difficulty with authorities. If the owner of the TV told the police that her boyfriend pawned it then she is in the clear. If, she however, told the police that it was stolen from the residence by an unknown individual she is guilty of filing a false police report and that is a criminal misdemeanor. If the latter is the case, it would be in the best interest of the person who filed the report to live well enough alone. Be that as it may, without the serial number of an item it is not impossible to prove ownership of such a common item. ------------- Another thought, take your boyfriend to small claims court for the cost of the TV. Have a receipt ready to present so you can prove the amount you are suing for. If you cannot provide a reciept, get the retail value off the internet and bring that in.
