Really it would depend what they are hiding. Everybody is entitled to their own privacy and just because one person might tell their friends everything about their life doesn't mean everybody else does.
Your friend doesn't need to know about your parents life. If you are dating somebody your friend doesn't need to know every detail in the relationship especially not if one of the people in the relationship doesn't want anybody to know. If somebody is talking about your behind your back your friend not telling you might be a good thing. So, really it depends what they are hiding.
