The best way to avoid plagiarism is not to plagiarize. It is probably easier than it ever was to uncover plagiarism. There are ways to use web material in papers, but it may still be best to use standard form and make references to library-available material if humanly possible, unless your teachers advocate and teach methods in the use of web references. It is not that hard-journal material is any less vulnerable to inaccuracy, but that a paper trail is perhaps easier to follow to its true source than the electron trail.

Plagiarism is about ideas as well... taking someone else's work and presenting it as your own. So, the way to avoid plagiarism and intellectual dishonesty is to give the originator of the idea credit when you use the idea. Write down where you got the information, and when you use it later, give credit where it is due. Also be careful not to just cut and paste things from one site to another. Posting things counts as publishing them, and you could be violating the other person's copyright. Posting a link is usually a much better way to present a website for other people to look at.
