first A good tune up plugs/wires/car & rotor. Keep tires inflated to prop psi. Check fuel filter. Second is driving habits. slow take off from a stop. Look ahead while driving & when you see brake lights or a red light then let off the gas. Use cruise control on long trips (doesn't help much in the city) If no cruise then hold speed steady as you can-let off gas as you go down hill. My told me when I first started to drive ( 1968) to drive as if I had a rotten egg under the pedal. And you can install a vaccuum gauge-the keep vaccuum as low as you can while driving. My Dakota-97 4x4 with a cap gets the best mileage at 62 mph on the highway (speed limit is 70 here in Mich)
