This is an automatic reminder to have your car inspected. It doesn't mean that anything is wrong. It's just a service reminder & you should take it in. This keeps your warranty up to date. After they inspect it, they will turn the warning off. It will happen again at 10,000 miles.
Depends on which light you are referring to. The "Check Engine" light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system. The "Maintenance Required Light" comes on when scheduled maintenance is required as outlined in your owners manual.

Actually, I believe all 2000 and up models have chains. I checked for our 2000 Corolla on Rockauto, and a chain comes up. This is what is stated on Toyota discussion sites.
I do believe the gas tank size on a 2001 Corolla is 13.2 gallons. the gas light usually comes on around 10.5 gallons

The maintenance required light just means there is regular scheduled maintenance that needs to be done. Look in your owner's manual and it will tell you exactly what needs to be done. Can be just an Oil/Filter change. This applies to the Maintenance Required light and not to the Check Engine light.
