For the money you get much finer resolution from film -- for the average person who just takes snapshots and usually only has 4x6 prints made, it's a lot easier to have digital. But if you want to do a huge enlargement, then dollar for dollar a film camera will be far less expensive because the higher the megapixel count needed to achieve the same enlargement, the price of the camera can go up astronomically.
