In the United States, a bachelor's degree in history is the basis of finding employment and- or advancing to higher level degrees. And, these higher levels do not exclude other areas of study. With that said, a BA in history can qualify a person to find an entry level job in the private or public sectors in the USA. The fact is many US organizations recruit people with 4 year degrees in a liberal arts field such as history and then train them for management level positions. Aside from the private job sector, a history major may qualify for a job in teaching. The BA can qualify an individual for a teaching job from K-1 to grade 12 in most school systems.

The BA in history can qualify a student to achieve a MA in history at a college or university. The student usually teaches college underclass students as payment or partial payment for their own graduate level courses in various types of history or political science. Approximately 30% or more people in the US have some kind of college degree. Under normal circumstances, this will lead to a higher paying career then people without college degrees.
