When you visit your local orthodontist to get your braces tightened, you will usually find yourself in pain, making chewing painful. But don't worry about what you will eat for the next week or so while your teeth

adjust. There are foods from every level of the food pyramid that you can eat, with a limited need for chewing, after a visit to your orthodontist to get your braces tightened.

At the top of the food pyramid are those foods considered to be part of the sugar group. From this category you can enjoy a nice bowl of pudding, Jell-O, or a slice of cake. All of these foods require very little chewing if at all, and they also make great desserts. The Jell-O and pudding, when consumed cold, may even help to relieve some pain from having your braces tightened by your orthodontist.

On the next level of the food pyramid to the left is dairy. There are many dairy products that can be easily consumed, after having your braces tightened by your orthodontist, with little pain. When looking for dairy options that are easy to chew try cottage cheese, yogurt, or ice cream. All of these foods can be served cold to relieve some of the pain.

To the right of dairy in the food pyramid are the proteins. This is probably the hardest area of the food pyramid to find things that are easy to eat after a trip to the orthodontist, but don't fret, there are foods from this area that are easy to chew with little pain. Try fish sticks, crab cakes, meatloaf, very tender pot roast, or tender corn beef when you want to eat meat after having your braces tightened. These options will require more chewing than most, cutting these food items into very small bites and using your tongue will help you to avoid unnecessary pain when consuming them after having your braces tightened by your orthodontist.
