Most of them will eat other greens like lettuce and zucchini as well as algae. It sometimes helps to blanch the vegies to soften them up for the fish to eat. Good pet shops should stock pellets designed for algae eaters.

∙ 13y agoAlgae are categorized as Protists which generally means they do not fit into the other Kingdoms like Animal, Plant, Fungi, Monera (bacteria type organisms). Protists are generally single celled or multicellular but without tissue specialisation. They have nuclei enclosed in a membrane unlike bacteria. Modern biologists consider "blue-green algae" to be a type of bacteria rather than true algae.
Most algae use photosynthesis to make their own food. Algae have chlorophyll.
