What a student use it for or get away with! I have seen...used cars, computers, trips to sunny places, dates, books, classes, and I'm sure others have seen more. As long as you pay it back, I have never heard of any verification of the uses of the loan. I paid house taxes, auto repairs and obvious college costs as well as past debts consolidation.

Should parents sign the student loan so they can take the IRS tuition tax deduction or should the student defer payment until after graduation when they can use the deduction?

For most parentsTax benefits for college education can be deducted only in the amount of the tuition and fees paid, not for loan money used for room and board and most cases not for books. If the student has government grants and scholarships that pay part or all of the tuition, these funds have to be used for tuition. Then the amount available for tax rebate is only what is left from the tuition bill and the other 2/3 of the loan goes for room, board and living expenses which have no tax rebate.

where can I get private student load and how can it help me?

A federal student loan is most likely only going to be used on your tuition expenses. This is due to the fact that some federal student loans, like the Stafford or Perkins student loan might only help you pay some of your tuition, in other words it wont cover the full cost of your tuition. In this case it obviously cant help you pay for outside expenses because it does not even cover the cost of your tuition. Private student loans can be much more flexible. A private student loan can be made to cover the entire cost of your tuition as well as cover outside expenses.
