Use a colored theatrical "Gel" - it's a transparent colored plastic material that will withstand the heat from a light bulb. Any pro audio / pro lighting place will sell "Gel" material, or just order it online. Stagespot.com sells gel material in sheets for around $6-7. Just Google "Lighting Gel" and you'll come up with dozens of online suppliers.
Get your bulb, it should be a very small wattage (weak) one, get your battery and wires, connect one wire to plus side of abttery and other wire to minus side of battery, then connect to the bulb, you may have to play around a bit to find a connection that produces light.
