This is a very general answer, as I don't know what "running bad" means. I would start by changing the oil filter and filling it with new oil. I find that quaker state is the best. Next, I would change the spark plugs. Bad spark plugs and low oil can often cause a car to jerk and shake whether your driving or just idling.
These very large companies that produce car engine oil include Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobil 1, and Valvoline. Additionally, Motorcraft, Quaker State, and Peak also produce car engine oil.
My Toyota Corlla say in the Engine 5w30, I use this oil weight, I usually buy Quaker State and my car purs like a kitten, it has 120 000 miles and I drive 80 miles a day on average, plus long trips every other month, I change the oil & oil filter every 6000 miles and my Air Filter every other oil change.
We have always used Quaker State 10w30 and change it every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. We still have the car and get 22 to 24 MPH in the city.
A car engine has a/an: * air filter * cabin air filter * fuel filter * oil filter * transmission filter
Filter out debris from the fuel.
They make a filter for every car/truck, anything with an engine.

If you are unsure, you can take your car to AutoZone. Usually, they will look at your car with no coat. It helps if you buy from them, and they can help you pick out the oil filter for your car.
